Lew A. McKinney, Sr., age 77, of Altoona, died Sunday morning, June 23, 2019, at Altoona Center for Nursing Care, Altoona. He was born July 26, 1941 in Tyrone, a son of the late James A. McKinney and Inez (Frye) Woodring.
Survived by five children: Faith McKinney, Beverly McKinney, Lew A. McKinney, Jr., Sheila Mort, and Max McKinney; three siblings: Ann Taylor, Pat Claar and Joseph Woodring; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Among Lew's survivors are his special caregivers: a granddaughter Amanda Himes, a nephew Stephen Port and a niece Jessica Clapper.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Inez Miner and Rella Lardieri, and four brothers: Charles McKinnery, Derwood Claar, Kenneth Frye and James McKinney.
Lew was a graduate of Williamsburg High School. He was a US Army veteran. He worked on the railroad for several years, then moved to Florida, where he worked in construction.
There will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held at a later date, to be announced.
