Daniel Smith Obituary

Daniel W. "Hoon" Smith, age 74, of Duncansville, died Thursday afternoon, February 1, 2018, at UPMC Altoona after an extended illness. Born August 18, 1943 in Altoona, a son of the late Raymond H. and Carie Elizabeth (Franklin) Smith. He married Carol A. Crawford on Nov. 7, 1964.

Survived by his wife, Carol; a daughter Denise Smith (Greg Brock); a son Christopher Smith of Duncansville; 4 grandchildren: Ryan (fiancé Pam Kline), Zachary, Jessalyn and Cadence; a brother Trafford "Tap" Smith of Donnertown; and 3 sisters: Levina Hazenstab of Altoona, and Judy Miller and Pauline Eger, both of Carson Valley. He is also survived by special friends: Russ Stacey, Jimmy Wagner and Terry Lynch, and many other close friends and family.

He was preceded in death by 6 brothers: Vian, Harry, Raymond, Jr. "Mick", Terry "Ears", Clayton "Boog", and Donald "Skeets", and an infant sister.

Hoon attended Hollidaysburg High School. He worked for Lou Ventre for many years doing plastering and also did many other odd jobs. He was a member of the Hollidaysburg American Legion and the Allegheny Club.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, B.S.in', and spending time with his grandchildren. Hoon was a "one-of-a-kind" and will be greatly missed by all.

At Hoon's request, there will be no public viewing or services.
