David E. Salyards, age 75, of Maple Hollow, Duncansville, died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, May 25, 2023. He was born December 20, 1947 in Altoona, a son of the late Ralph D. and Jessie L. (Colbert) Salyards.
Survived by four children: Mary Ann Salyards-Dawbin (Brian) in California, Bill Salyards of Catfish, Shaun Salyards (Kristan) of Duncansville, and Sheena Bookhammer (Todd) of Martinsburg; six grandchildren: Willow and Ella Salyards-Dawbin, Gemma and Jude Salyards, and Carter and Maylie Bookhammer; a brother John J. Salyards of Hollidaysburg; a sister Linda Kay Imler in Florida; his ex-wife of 20 years Shirley Salyards; and his significant other Debbie Ghaner.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jessie Hufford.
Dave was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He was a US Marine Corp veteran, serving in the Vietnam conflict. He retired from Conrail.
He was a student of Martial Arts for over 50 years and was promoted to rank of Grand Master in the Shuto Society School of Karate. Dave taught Martial Arts and self-defense classes for many years.
He enjoyed the outdoors, shooting pool, and collecting arrow heads and Native American items.
Friends will be received from 5-7pm on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, immediately followed by a Celebration of Life service at 7pm, with Military Honors, at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc.
