Dorothy Morris Obituary

Dorothy Marie (States) Morris, age 82, known for her selfless and loving nature, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Homewood at Martinsburg in Martinsburg, PA with her dear lifelong friend Mona Henck by her side. She was born February 5, 1942 in Gallitzin. Preceding her in death were her parents Eugene and Cass States and her husband of 41 years, Gary Lee Morris.

Dottie will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Morris of Atlanta, GA; her two grandchildren: Madison McKeirnan of Atlanta, GA and Conor McKeirnan of State College, PA; her beloved sister, Mary Ann (Bob) Hartman of Mooresville, N.C; her niece, Janelle (David) Sherman; her great niece/ Goddaughter, Cassie Sherman of Cornelius, NC; her sister in-law, Mary Morris of Northampton, MA; and many lifelong friends.

Dottie moved to Eldorado, PA as a young teen with her family and attended Catholic High (now know as B.G.) where she met her lifelong friends. Those friends from that time all remained very close throughout her life. Dottie met, dated, and married her one and only Gary and shared a loving life together for 41 years until his passing in 2002. Dottie believed you married for life and despite being only 60 years old when he passed her heart remained with him and she never was with another.

Throughout her life Dottie always put others before herself. Her kindness, generosity, and willingness to help with whatever was needed touched many lives. You could not go to her home without hearing her ask multiple times, “Can I get you something?” or “Do you need anything?”. Her home was her sanctuary, but she also loved going on vacations with her family and being social with her friends and her multiple card clubs.

Dottie’s main focus was her grandchildren; being there for them after school and being their biggest fan at all their activities, especially their swim meets. Nana attended every swim meet throughout the many, many years for Maddie and Conor and was loved for it even by other team members.

Her granddaughter Maddie said, “Nana shined the brightest light in the room and is a monumental part of who I am today!”. Her grandson Conor said, “It is extremely rare to come across someone this special throughout an entire lifetime and I was lucky enough to have her as my Nana and my best friend.”

Dottie will be remembered for her smile, her warmth, her free spirit (she was SO much fun), and the love she gave openly and freely. She will be missed by many but her loving spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30am on Friday, June 7, 2024 at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, PA. Interment will take place at Blair Memorial Park, Altoona, PA.
