On Sunday, April 17, 2022 we lost a beautiful person. Ella Doreen Bowser was a daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and wife. She was born August 18, 1959 in Altoona to Ella Ruth “Til” (Rinehart) Black and the late William J. Black. Doreen passed away at home after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
On August 21, 1982 she married her best friend Terry A. Bowser. Their daughter, Cortney Bowser, was born on June 26, 1991. She gave her parents a granddaughter who was born on March 25, 2014. Doreen loved life and when Khloe was born she loved life even more as “Ma.” She was the light that put the twinkle in Doreen’s eyes. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Terry; her daughter Cortney Bowser; her mother Til Black of Duncansville; a brother William Black (Barbara) in Asheville, NC; a sister Christine Dively (John) of Duncansville; her dogs Deegan and Arlo; several nieces and nephews; and last but most important, her granddaughter Khloe Miller.
She was preceded in death by her father, several aunts and uncles, and her grandparents.
Doreen was a 1977 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. She worked many jobs during her life including the NAPA warehouse in Duncansville and at Stay N’ Play Preschool. She was a member of Hicks United Methodist Church in Duncansville where she was baptized and married.
She left way to soon with a lifetime of unfinished adventures. She left many friends, too many to list, and she loved them all. Her family would like to thank Family Hospice, especially Carly and Karen who cared for her like family.
In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to American Cancer Society for research (PO Box 198, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648).
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 5pm at Hick's Memorial United Methodist Church, Duncansville. The Rev. Rich Morris will officiate.
As a last note, as Doreen always said to Khloe when she dropped her off at school, “Be kind, be caring, be loving, and I love you more”.
