Ellsworth "Jr" Smith

Ellsworth R. “Jr” Smith, age 93, of Blacklog Valley Rd., Orbisonia, died Dec. 11, 2020, at home, in Lack Township, Blacklog Valley, within sight of his birthplace. He was born Aug. 26, 1927 at home, son of the late Ellsworth E. and June (Yoder) Smith. He was united in marriage to the former Margaret Krause on June 7, 1958 at the Orbisonia Church of the Nazarene. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Smith is survived by three children: Jerome and wife Teena of Hershey, Sara Bowman and husband Ken of State College, and Doug and wife Tonya of Three Springs RR; 7 grandchildren: Krista (Smith) Garman and husband Jeremy, Sammy Smith, Ben Bowman and wife Danielle, Dan Bowman and fiancé Lindsey Schwartz, Cassie Smith, Amanda (Smith) Erwin and husband Josh, and Gary Smith; 6 great-grandchildren: Kaylee and Hunter Garman, Hayden and Harper Bowman, and Brody and Savannah Erwin; and a sister, Carrie Glace of York.

He was preceded in death by his brothers: David R. Smith and Herb Smith.

Jr was a member of the Orbisonia Church of the Nazarene, where he served as a choir member and as the church bus driver for many years. He also chaperoned many church teen retreats over the years. He owned and operated the Orbisonia Garage for 34 years and was also a kindergarten school bus driver for the Rockhill Elementary School for 39 years.

Due to COVID restrictions, an outdoor public walk and drive-by viewing will take place on Tues., Dec. 15, 2020, from 12pm-1pm in the parking lot of the Orbisonia Church of the Nazarene, followed by outdoor funeral services at 1pm in the church parking lot. The Rev. Darrell Nicklow and Rev. David Bowen will co-officiate the service. Social distancing and masks will be required. Interment will take place at Byron Run Cemetery, Blacklog Valley Rd., Orbisonia.
