Harry Brown Obituary

Harry R. Brown, age 93, of Duncansville, died Wednesday morning, April 10, 2024, at Homewood at Martinsburg. He was born at home on December 13, 1930 in Imler, the son of the late John Russell and Ada Dolly (Ickes) Brown. He married Barbara A. Rodgers on Sept. 3, 1955 at 58th Street United Methodist Church.

Surviving is his wife, Barbara A. Brown; a son, Alan Brown of Duncansville; a daughter, Amy Hall (husband Kim) of Woodland; three grandsons: Jason Garman (wife Michelle), Kyle Brown (wife Hope), and Tyler Garman (wife Christian); three great-grandsons: Theodore, Harrison, and Elliott; a brother-in-law, Barry Rodgers (wife Sandy), and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Dibert; a brother-in-law, Vernon Dibert; and his son-in-law, James Garman.

Harry was a 1948 graduate of Bedford High School. He was a US Army veteran. He worked at A&P then retired from Gateway. ,where he worked as a meat-cutter. Following retirement, he worked as a groundskeeper for the Altoona Curve for 10 years.

He was a member of Hick’s Methodist Church and the Lakemont Lions Club.

Harry enjoyed bus trips and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. His family was most important to him; especially going hunting with his son and grandsons.

Friends will be received on Monday, April 15, 2024 from 10 until the 11am funeral service, at Hick’s Methodist Church, Duncansville. Rev. Rich Morris will officiate. Interment will take place at Alto-Reste Cemetery, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Hick’s Youth Fellowship (1211 3rd Ave., Duncansville, PA 16635).
