Jonathan Masood, Sr Obituary

Jonathan Albert Masood, Sr., age 74, of Altoona, formerly of Flower Mound, TX, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020. He was born Dec. 2, 1945 in Altoona, son of the late Dr. Naseeb and Dorothy (Cassel) Masood.

Survived by children: Jonathan Masood, Jr. of Keller, TX, Jared Masood of Lewisville, TX, Briggette Strickler of Buda, TX, James Buford of San Marcos, TX, and Patrick Masood of Fort Worth, TX; a granddaughter, Kayla Rose Masood of Keller, TX; a grandson, Wade Strickler of Buda, TX; several nieces and nephews; his former spouse, Jackie Buford in TX; and a special friend, Carol Foor of Altoona.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Father Naseeb Masood and Dr. Edward Masood.

Jon was a 1963 graduate of Altoona High School, a 1967 graduate of Lock Haven University, and a 1969 graduate of Ohio University, where he earned his Masters. He retired from Corporate Human Resources.

Jon, along with his former wife, Jackie, spent many years fostering children. This was Jon’s passion in his life to mentor these children. He acquired the name “Uncle Jon” from his foster children. He and Jackie also were very active in Texas Special Olympics for many years. During his stay in Texas, he was on several committees, including March of Dimes and MLK programs. Jon was very active in his former church, Calvary Christian, in Ormond Beach, FL, with their outreach program and food giveaway. He enjoyed going into the communities and mentoring to the poor and handing out food to the homeless.

He was a member of St. George Orthodox Church and Altoona Full Gospel.

Jon was an active marathon runner for many years. When he stopped running, he would walk 3 miles daily. His whole day revolved around his walk.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11am on Thurs., June 3, 2021 at Altoona Full Gospel Church, 120 Roswell St., Lakemont, Altoona. Pastor Ron Campbell and Pastor Joe Kelly will officiate.
