Margaret A. ‘Peg’ Hertel, age 88, of Gallitzin, died early Thursday morning, September 11, 2025 at home following an extended illness. She was born October 27, 1936 in Natrona Heights, daughter of the late William M. Sr. and Della Mae (Brannen) Hertel.
She is survived by a daughter Catherine A. ‘Cat’ Hertel (Tyrman) of Altoona, two grandsons: Tyrman ‘Tony’ White III (Kylie) of Altoona and TyRelle White (Ellen) of Camp Hill; a great-grandson, Elias Dominic White; a brother, William M. Hertel Jr. of Flinton; nephews: Billy, Jeffrey, and Jason Hertel, all of Maryland; an estranged daughter, Melissa Kroll of Hollidaysburg; and an estranged granddaughter, Lauren Kroll of Hollidaysburg.
She was preceded in death by her long-time companion, Lloyd Hollen.
Peg was a 1954 graduate of Cresson Joint High School. She worked as a telephone receptionist for many local businesses.
She loved everything Elvis and enjoyed doing word search puzzles, watching Walker Texas Ranger, and knitting dishcloths for everyone she knew.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4-7pm on Friday, September 26, 2025 at The Salvation Army Worship & Service Center, 1813 6th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602.
