Martha Chamberlain, age 96, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022 at her daughter’s home in Chatham, NY after her third battle with cancer. She was born February 13, 1926 in Hollidaysburg, a daughter of the late William D. and Alice (Smith) Dugan.
Surviving are two daughters: Darlene (Martin) Schwartz of Ashley Falls, MA and Colleen (James) McGill of Chatham, NY; three grandchildren: Jennifer Barry of San Antonio, TX, Matthew (Leanne) Barry of Wyandotte, MI, and Alixe Schwartz of Sherborn, MA; two great-grandchildren: Miller Barry and Blayne Barry, both of Wyandotte, MI; one sister, Dolores Hendrickson of Hollidaysburg; a sister-in-law Vivian Dugan of Hollidaysburg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews - all of whom she loved very much. Martha is also survived by three dear friends who she loved like family: Dottie Helsel, Karen Malone and Amy Sipes. The family would like to thank these women for loving Martha as much as we do.
She was preceded in death by three sisters: Garnett Dugan, Millicent Kempfer and Miriam Cruse; two brothers: Goodling and David Dugan; and her son-in-law, Martin Schwartz.
Martha lived in and around Hollidaysburg all her life. She was a 1943 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and retired from Veeder Root in Duncansville. She was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hollidaysburg.
She enjoyed early morning walks with friends, drives to Chimney Rock and through Scotch Valley, visiting with friends and family, watching the birds and wildlife in her backyard, and all types of desserts. Martha had quite the sweet tooth. She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother-in-law and aunt. She loved giving tips to live healthier and happier lives. To say she will be missed is such an understatement.
A celebration of Martha’s life will take place this summer – date and time to be shared at a later date. Interment will take place at Geeseytown Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
