Merrill Harshberger Obituary

Merrill Russell Harshberger, age 84, a resident of Hilltop Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Altoona, passed peacefully in his sleep Tuesday morning, August 27, 2024. He was born July 9, 1940 in Altoona, a son of the late Charles Leo and Myrle Naoma (Brannan) Harshberger. He married the former Elaine P. Bishop on August 19, 1961.

Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Elaine; a son, Stephen Harshberger, Sr. (Tammie); twin daughters: Naoma Moses (John) and Natalie Robinson (Paul); 8 grandchildren: April (Justin), Kristi (Mike), Stephen Jr., John Jr., Sara, Brittanie, Eric, and Kelly; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Charles and Richard Harshberger, and a grandson, Jeremy.

Merrill was an Altoona High School graduate. Along with his wife, they delivered papers for the Altoona Mirror for many years, and then they helped with the foster grandparent program.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Friends will be received from 10am until the noon funeral service Friday, August 30, 2024 at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Duncansville. Rev. Rich Morris will officiate. Interment will take place at Carson Valley Cemetery, Duncansville.
