Melvin Nelson Prough, age 80, of Carson Valley, Duncansville, died Tuesday morning, January 3, 2023 at home following an extended illness. He was born March 25, 1942 in Hollidaysburg, a son of the late Melvin M. and Caroline H. (Shoemaker) Prough. He married the former Nancy D. Diehl on Aug. 8, 1964 at Foot of Ten Independent Bible Church.
Survived by his wife, Nancy; three children: Brian Prough of Hodgenville, KY, Renee Galbraith of Apollo Beach, FL, and Deanna Moore of Claysburg; two grandsons: Adam Allison and Andrew Kelly; a great-granddaughter, Lilliana Mae; and a sister, Trudy Prough of Hodgenville, KY.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Albert M. Prough.
Nelson was a 1960 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School, where he was on the wrestling team. He retired from SKF in 1999. He was a lifetime member of the NRA.
Nelson enjoyed wrestling, bicycling, music, playing his guitar and organ, weightlifting, and running. He ran in 10 marathons and many local 5K’s and biked in several Tour de Tuna’s. He was named Mr. Blair County in the early 70’s. Nelson also enjoyed family vacations, especially trips out West.
Friends will be received on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 11am to 1pm, immediately followed by a funeral service at 1pm at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Duncansville. Pastor Ben Hoover will officiate. Interment will take place in Carson Valley Cemetery.
