Paul J. McCloskey, 91, Altoona, passed away peacefully at home Sunday afternoon, May 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 4, 1934 in Altoona, son of the late Eugene J. and Mary Flavia “Marie” (Flick) McCloskey.
Surviving are two children: Kathy Stiver (Jim) and Mike McCloskey (Mary), all of Altoona. He was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Tim Jr., Matt, Jim Jr., Kelly (Ken), Scott (Holly), and Rachel (Zach); 8 great-grandchildren: Brittney Sweesy (Gary), Savannah, McKenzie, Kaitlin, Maria, Mason, Anthony, and Kyla; and two great-great-granddaughters. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Ann Donelly; a brother, Francis “Bear” McCloskey (Patty); a daughter-in-law, Ellen McCloskey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Ruth Ann (Geibel) Rumbaugh; a son, Timothy; a great-granddaughter, Emily; brothers Eugene and John McCloskey; a sisters Mary Jo McCloskey and Irene Schlect.
Paul attended St. Leo’s Catholic School in Altoona and graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1952. He was employed as an electrician at Proctor Silex in Tipton for 20 years and then retired from Neft Electric. He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard and was a lifetime social member of the Newburg Firehall.
Paul was a devoted and loving father and grandfather. There was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with his family, and was very active in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a devout Catholic and attended services throughout his life at St. Leo’s Catholic Church as well as St. Rose of Lima and The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. Words alone cannot begin to describe how deeply he will be missed by his family, friends, and all that knew and loved him.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8pm Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Duncansville. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am Friday, May 16, 2025 at St. Rose of Lima with Father John Lynam as celebrant. Committal will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
Paul’s family would like to thank special friend, Sheila Harvey, who helped care for and loved Paul like family, and thanks to Family Hospice, especially his primary caregivers: Danielle, Heather, Brittany, and Tammy.
