Robert R. Coppersmith, age 92, of Duncansville, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2022 at UPMC Altoona. He was born July 24, 1930 in Roaring Spring, a son of the late Freeman and Kathleen (Riley) Coppersmith. He married Grace E. Diehl, who preceded him in death in 2017 after 68 years of marriage.
Surviving are nine of his children: David (Darlene) of Duncansville, Sharle Campbell of Duncansville, Robert II (Kathy) of Claysburg, Brian, Eva Coppersmith, Jane Green, Marcia Cameron (Gordon), Dale (Tracey), all of Duncansville, and Joseph (Holly) of Mt. Union; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a brother, Herb of York; and a sister, Eileen Adams of Warne, NC.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy; a son, Ned; and siblings: Marian Kennedy, Harold and Louise Coppersmith, and Elizabeth Lantz.
Bob retired from Conrail as an electrician after 35 years of service. He was a man of many talents. He and his wife, Grace, built the home in which he still resided.
He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Newry his entire life.
Bob’s many hobbies included building guns and archery bows, fishing the Juniata and Susquehanna Rivers with Grace, and rifle and archery hunting. He knew well that Grace bested him at turkey hunting. His huge vegetable garden fed his large family and many friends and neighbors, and was of great pride to him.
He was greatly loved and will be missed by many.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Duncansville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 29 at 10am at St. Patrick Church, Newry. Father Allen Zeth will officiate. Interment will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
