Robert Glass Obituary

Robert E. Glass, age 90, of Duncansville, died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, January 14, 2023. He was born February 18, 1932 in Duncansville, a son of the late James and Gladys (Helsel) Glass. He married Barbara Alice Glass on July 1, 1955 at First Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death on October 31, 2016.

Surviving is three children: Dianne Lea Ibeling (Loren) of Mountain Lake, MN, David Robert Glass of Hollidaysburg, and Cheryl Lynnea Swope of Treasure Lake; two grandsons: Chris and Zack Feathers; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: William Peterson of VA, Donald T. Glass (Barbara Ann) of Altoona, Joann Glass of Oregon, Linda Baginski of CA, and Kathy Bartley of AL.

He was preceded in death by a brother John “Jack” Glass and a son-in-law Kenneth Swope, Jr.

Bob was a 1953 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He was a military veteran. He served in the Army National Guard, eventually rising to company commander of the National Guard unit in Altoona. After a break in service, he served in the Army Reserve, ending in retirement. He worked at McLanahan Corp. for 40 years, retiring in 1994 as a foreman of the core shop.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg, Duncansville VFW, Claysburg American Legion, and the Veterans War Council in Altoona. He served with the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard for many years.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and being actively involved in his twin grandsons’ lives. In later years he enjoyed watching football and Westerns.

Friends will be received from 2 until the 4pm funeral service on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Duncansville, with Military Honors accorded by the Blair County Veteran Honor Guard. Pastor Drew McCaffery will officiate. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Cemetery.
