Shirley L. Fether, age 86, of Duncansville, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024 at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, with her family by her side. She was born December 28, 1937 in East Freedom, a daughter of the late Calvin J. Flaugh Sr. and Mary Pearl (Corle) Flaugh. She married Harold C. Fether on April 20, 1957 in Berkeley, W. Va. He preceded her in death on October 12, 2022. They shared a special kind of love for 65 years.
Surviving is a daughter, Donna J. Fether of East Freedom; a son, Larry D. Fether (Michelle) of Altoona; three grandchildren: Ryan Fether (Ami) of Imler, Brennan Fether (Sarah) of Ebensburg, and Brianna Jones (Alec) of Williamsburg; five great-grandchildren: Bryson, Landry, Waylon, Easton, and Sawyer; and two brothers: Paul Flaugh (Shirley) and Donald Flaugh (Bonnie).
She was preceded in death by 6 siblings: Eugene Flaugh, JoAnne Croyle, Calvin Flaugh Jr., Betty Aungst, Dorothy Benton, and Nancy Glunt.
Shirley was a 1956 graduate of Roaring Spring High School. She previously worked at Saf-T-Bak and in the cafeteria at Hollidaysburg School District before becoming a homemaker.
She was a member of Grace Fellowship Church, Leamersville. She enjoyed cooking and baking. She had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone that needed help. Shirley loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Friends will be received from 4-8pm on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Duncansville and from 10 until the 11am funeral service on Tuesday, February 6 at Grace Fellowship Church. Pastor Mark Lingenfelter will officiate. Interment will take place at Alto-Reste Cemetery, Altoona.
