Sonja Whitpan Obituary

Sonja M. (Ott) Whitpan, just 38 days shy of her 87th birthday, passed peacefully into her eternal rest on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at her home in Garvey Manor, Hollidaysburg. She was born June 5, 1939 in Altoona, daughter of the late Ellis C. and Gertrude A. (Burger) Teeter.

Survived by children: Darlene Ott-Hale (Lance), Linda Adler, James E. Ott (Amy), and Carol Rouzer. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren: Larry Salyer (Lindsay), Alan Salyer, Krista Lanzendorfer (Travis), Renee McMahon (Eric), Ron Heverly, Chelsea Phillips, Chloe Rouzer, Collin Rouzer, and Charlotte Rouzer; 14 great-grandchildren: Sierra, Dalton, Lacey, Gage, Isaiah, Karilyn, Asher, Kennedy, Wyatt, Coraline, Colton, Kinley, Clara, and Luna; two great-great-grandchildren: Charlotte and Carson; and a sister, Nancy A. Wilkison.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Limbert.

A 1957 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School, Sonja was active in Try-Hi-Y at the YMCA and proudly served as a lifeguard there. She married James A. Ott and attended Mount Aloysius.

She moved to Springfield, Pennsylvania, where she worked as a dietary supervisor at Dunwoody Village in Newtown Square. She later married the late Howard Whitpan. She was fond of Howard's son, David, and enjoyed living in that area for many years, and eventually retired from White Horse in Newtown Square.

Sonja lived with her daughters, Carol and Darlene, before becoming a resident of St. Leonard's Personal Care Home, and later Garvey Manor.

She attended various churches, most recently Trans4mation Church in Altoona.

Affectionately known as "Mimi" or "Miss Daisy", Sonja found joy in reading, music, and singing, some of her favorite songs - Two Pina Coladas, On the Way to Cape May, and many beloved hymns. She had a gift for planning gatherings and cherished every moment spent with her family.

If we were to pick a song that depicted her, we would say it was the great Frank Sinatra's song I Did It My Way.

Miss Daisy, you will be missed, and the storytelling will go on.

Our family would like to especially thank the staff at Garvey Manor for becoming like her 2nd family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Duncansville, on Sunday, May 3, 2026 from 2-4pm, with a brief memorial service to immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sonja can be made to: Garvey Manor (1037 S. Logan Blvd., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648).
