Walter R Barnes Jr

Walter R. “Alt” Barnes, Jr., age 73, of Hollidaysburg, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 19, 2025 at home. He was born August 2, 1951 in Altoona, a son of the late Walter R. Barnes, Sr. and Doris Jean (Piper) Peterson.

Surviving is a sister, Tracy Wyatt (Don); two nieces: Erin Barnes and Rachel Wyatt; a nephew, Ryan Peterson; and several close friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Tina McCoy on September 18, 2023; a brother, Dale Barnes on January 12, 2025; and a nephew, Lucas McCoy in 2001.

Alt was a Hollidaysburg High School graduate and later became manager of the football and basketball teams. He was proud to be an Air Force veteran, serving from 1969 until 1973 during the Vietnam era. He recalled many fond memories of life “in the service” and was a “Rock Club” member. He retired as a truck driver from BCO.

He enjoyed seeing Felix & The Hurricanes perform and spending time with family, especially his nieces and nephews. Alt had a love for cars and attended many car shows and was a NASCAR fan.

Despite being an amputee, he lived his life well with compassion and a positive attitude.

All services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place at Carson Valley Cemetery.
